Tips & How-tos – The Upcoming https://www.theupcoming.co.uk Film, music, food, art, theatre, fashion from London and beyond Mon, 10 Nov 2025 08:50:02 +0000 en-GB hourly 1 https://wordpress.org/?v=6.8.3 The biggest style trends to look out for this festive season https://www.theupcoming.co.uk/2025/11/10/the-biggest-style-trends-to-look-out-for-this-festive-season/ Mon, 10 Nov 2025 08:50:02 +0000 https://www.theupcoming.co.uk/?p=526590 Now you’ve handpicked your perfect Christmas tree, are you ready to refresh your festive look? From medieval-inspired metallics to playful retro hues and rustic Western textures, we spoke to Whinnie Williams, Interior Designer and Trends Forecaster for Balsam Hill, to learn more about some of this season’s biggest style trends.

Merry Medieval

Romance, opulence and candlelight reign supreme this Christmas, as the ‘Merry Medieval’ trend brings the Castlecore aesthetic from TikTok into our living rooms.

“Following the rapid rise of Castlecore, which has captured Gen Z hearts on TikTok with over 280 million views for the hashtag alone, Merry Medieval promises to bring the world of candlelit corridors and velvet-draped banquets to our doors this Christmas,” says Whinnie.

Metallics form the foundation of this look, but forget gaudy golds — this year it’s all about silver and chrome. “Build your tree with a base of silver baubles,” Whinnie recommends. “I opt for primarily shiny chrome as I love the way these reflect candlelight. Further textural dimension comes through the gun-metal-coloured ribbon twisted throughout the tree with velvet and satin finishes on either side. Layer with frosted icicle ornaments and accents of red berries, and finish the look with a metallic tree collar that has the look and feel of amour.”

This trend goes beyond the tree, too. Whinnie suggests extending the medieval glamour to your festive tablescape. “Take a large garland and run it down the centre of the table, dress it with beaded feathers and berries, and stagger pewter candlesticks with tapered candles either side. Dress simple place settings with chrome platters and ornate silverware to add a medieval touch.”

Whether you’re hosting a feast or simply want to evoke a sense of grandeur, this trend transforms your home into something timeless, romantic and deeply atmospheric.

Retromaxxing

On the other end of the spectrum, ‘Retromaxxing’ is the most joyfully nostalgic trend of the season — a riot of colour and charm that captures the heart of 1950s Christmas nostalgia.

“Retromaxxing is where I get to have the most fun,” Whinnie explains. “Rooted in retro charm, this playful look blends 1950s-inspired pastels with a wink of modern kitsch. Think baubles, bows, and ice cream parlour colours like tutti frutti blue and bubblegum pink, all popping beautifully against a classic cherry red.

“By drawing on heirloom treasures, handmade trinkets, and vintage finds, I love that Retromaxxing can be deeply personal and completely unique to every household! It’s both sentimental and delightfully quirky — is there anything more festive?”

Whether you go full candy-coated maximalist or simply add a few nostalgic touches, Retromaxxing reminds us that Christmas decorating should be joyful, playful and entirely your own.

Cowgirl Christmas

While Beyoncé may have brought cowboy couture to fashion runways this year, this trend brings with it an earthy, homespun twist. “I like to think of the ‘Cowgirl Christmas’ trend as yeehaw-meets-hygge,” says Williams. “This trend is all about texture, with a colour palette that leans into earthy browns, sand-washed neutrals, and caramel creams. Oversized jute rosettes add a rustic, farmhouse feel with pinecones adding further natural touches.”

With this trend, the emphasis is on upcycling and individuality. “I’ve added hooks to charity shop horse figurines for a playful touch and threaded ribbon through vintage horsebrasses to create my very own cowgirl-inspired decorations,” Whinnie adds.

As Whinnie puts it, creating a truly personal festive look is about balance. “Choose one unifying element – whether that’s a colour palette, a motif, or even a book or film that inspires you – to tie everything together and give your décor purpose. From there, focus on layering. Don’t be afraid to mix new with old as this is what gives your tree personality.”

Ultimately the most memorable Christmas decor isn’t about perfection – it’s about personality, storytelling, and sparking a little bit of joy.

Experience the magic of Balsam Hill’s luxury artificial trees this Christmas https://www.theupcoming.co.uk/2025/11/05/experience-the-magic-of-balsam-hills-luxury-artificial-trees-this-christmas/ Wed, 05 Nov 2025 10:52:20 +0000 https://www.theupcoming.co.uk/?p=525693 As the festive season draws near, there’s no better time to start planning your home’s Christmas transformation. For those looking to elevate their holiday decor, investing in a luxury artificial tree from Balsam Hill could be the secret to turning your home into a winter wonderland year after year.

Renowned for its meticulous craftsmanship and remarkably lifelike designs, Balsam Hill has become the gold standard in luxury artificial trees. Combining artistry with innovation, each tree captures the spirit of the season in exquisite detail, offering a lasting centrepiece that transcends trends and traditions alike.

With the countdown to Christmas now in full swing, we spoke with Mac Harman, Founder and CEO of Balsam Hill, to discover what makes these trees truly special – and which showstopping designs deserve pride of place in your home this festive season.

Choosing the perfect tree

Reflecting on what drives his designs, Harman, a self-confessed tree enthusiast, explains, “My search for the ultimate lifelike artificial tree was inspired by a family member with a live tree allergy, since then I’ve used site visits and cuttings from real trees as a guide for creating our highly realistic trees.

“When choosing a Balsam Hill tree, the first step is to consider your space before thinking about your style. Do you love the look of a full, traditional tree, or do you prefer something more narrow and modern? Balsam Hill offers a variety of silhouettes so there’s something for every home, but most importantly, pick a tree that brings you joy year after year!”

No matter which tree you choose, Harman insists that fluffing is the secret to achieving that just-cut-from-the-forest look. “When you first set up your Balsam Hill tree, take your time. Start from the bottom and work your way up, separating each branch tip and bending them in different directions from one another.

“Carve out an evening, put some Christmas tunes on and get the whole family involved! It really is worth the time and effort to get the Christmas tree that will be the envy of all your friends.”

Our top picks

Vermont White Spruce Flip Tree

For those seeking both beauty and practicality, the Vermont White Spruce Flip Tree stands out as one of Balsam Hill’s most ingenious creations. Combining the brand’s signature True Needle technology with the patented Flip Tree design, it’s the ultimate blend of form and function.

Unlike traditional artificial trees that require lifting, bending, and endless assembly, the Flip Tree simplifies the entire process. The hinged sections are pre-attached, and the sturdy base is built on a rolling stand that allows you to simply flip the tree upright and secure it in place.

Set-up and take-down can be done in minutes – no heavy lifting, no misplaced branches, and no frustration. It’s perfect for anyone who loves the magic of a full, natural-looking tree but prefers a more hassle-free experience.

Inspired by the lush forests of New England, the Vermont White Spruce itself is one of Balsam Hill’s most realistic designs. Each branch tip features a natural mix of True Needle and classic PVC needles to create depth, fullness, and a beautifully layered silhouette. The result is a tree that looks and feels remarkably lifelike, with a gorgeous fullness at the bottom unlike some other trees on the market.

As Harman notes, “Balsam Hill’s True Needle foliage is designed to mimic real tree needles, and when fluffed properly, it creates an incredibly lifelike, layered effect. It’s this attention to detail that gives our trees that “wow” factor when you walk into the room.”

Whether unlit or pre-lit with colour or clear LED lights, it provides a timeless canvas for your holiday decorations.

Frosted Nordmann Fir Tree

One of Balsam Hill’s newest additions, the Frosted Nordmann Fir effortlessly captures the serene beauty of a snow-covered morning. Native to the mountains south and east of the Black Sea, the Nordmann fir has long been celebrated as one of the most beautiful of all fir varieties, and it’s easy to see why.

Balsam Hill’s interpretation elevates this classic variety with outstanding realism. Each branch is lightly coated to create the effect of freshly fallen snow, giving the tree a soft, natural texture that complements every style of decor – from shimmering silver to warm, rustic woodland tones.

If you’re looking for a tree guaranteed to bring the magic of a white Christmas into your home year after year, the Frosted Nordmann Fir is the perfect choice.

Balsam Fir Tree

The brand’s namesake is iconic for good reason. Revered for its classic silhouette and rich, full foliage, the Balsam Fir showcases the quality and craftsmanship Balsam Hill has become known for.

Modelled after real balsam firs grown on tree farms in Maine, this beautifully proportioned tree features distinct semi-flat needles and gently upturned branches, whilst its elegant teardrop shape and lush greenery evoke the nostalgic charm of a traditional Christmas tree straight from a children’s storybook – making this one of their most popular trees of all time.

Choose from clear LED lights for a classic, gentle glow, or for an even brighter, more sparkling effect, opt for the clear LED fairy lights, featuring over 1,200 micro LEDs throughout the tree’s branches to ensure the room is bathed in shimmering light.

Silverado Slim Tree

Inspired by the natural beauty of California’s Napa Valley, the Silverado Slim brings effortless elegance to even the smallest of spaces. Taking its name from the scenic Silverado Trail, it’s the ideal choice if you want the same full, lifelike look as Balsam Hill’s wider designs, but in a more streamlined, space-saving silhouette.

Available unlit or or pre-lit with clear LED and colour LED options, the Silverado Slim can also be enhanced with Balsam Hill’s innovative Twinkly Light Show technology. Using the Twinkly app, you can customise your display with an array of colours, patterns, and animations, switching from classic white to vibrant festive hues at the touch of a button – making this a showstopper that is sure to impress every guest this festive season.

All in all, investing in a Balsam Hill tree is one of the smartest decisions you can make this Christmas. With lifelike foliage, meticulous craftsmanship, and thoughtfully designed lighting options that truly take the stress out of decorating, each tree is set to become the heart of your home.

As Founder Mac Harman concludes, “While your decorations might change, Balsam Hill’s heirloom-quality trees are designed to last and bring you the same festive joy year after year.”

How to refresh your home on a budget this summer https://www.theupcoming.co.uk/2025/08/06/how-to-refresh-your-home-on-a-budget-this-summer/ Wed, 06 Aug 2025 08:00:52 +0000 https://www.theupcoming.co.uk/?p=517567 Maybe it’s the vibrant colours of summer or the longer days filled with sunshine, either way, there’s something about this season that inspires a home refresh. Luckily, you don’t need to hire a designer or break the bank to ‘summer-ise’ your home. Keep scrolling for our list of simple, affordable ways to elevate your surroundings – no special skills required!

Peel-and-stick wallpaper

We know what you’re thinking, we said minimal skill and we meant it! Hanging peel-and-stick wallpaper is infinitely easier than hanging traditional wallpaper with paste.

  • Peel off the backing at the top of the strip
  • Slowly press the paper against the wall from top to bottom
  • Gently remove the rest of the backing as you go
  • Use a Stanley knife or scissors to carefully trim the excess

It’ll instantly transform your space, peel straight off when you leave your rental (or want to change things up again!), and is surprisingly affordable. So much simpler and cleaner than painting the room! Hint: Dunelm has some amazing options for summer.

Shop your own space

This is, and will forever be, one of our favourite ways to update your home. Walk around your space and take note of your home decor pieces. We’re talking prints, candles, plants, that kind of thing. Collect them up, arrange them on your dining table, then use them to redecorate. Seeing each item in a different spot will make your spaces, and the items themselves, feel new again.

Give your coffee table the summer treatment

Your coffee table is the centre of your living space – so use it! We love a candle plate and pine cones for winter, mini pumpkins and spiced scents for autumn, and for summer? We’re all about colourful blooms, travel-themed coffee table books, and vibrant, citrus-scented candles – like this gorgeous 4-Wick Grapefruit Scented Candle from Lower Lodge Candles.

Put plants everywhere

Our simplest but arguably most effective summer refresh tip? Add plants in every room – the bigger the better! It’s all about bringing the outdoors in, ensuring you truly benefit from the mood-enhancing qualities real greenery provides.

Update your artwork

For a summery update, prioritise vibrant tones, playful prints, and colourful frames. Alternatively, try a tranquil summer vibe with minimal artworks in neutral colour tones and wooden frames. As for affordability, online stores such as Etsy and The Poster Lounge offer downloadable artwork you can print yourself at a fraction of the cost.

As one of London’s leading lash studios, you’ll be in safe hands at the London Lash Studio with their friendly and experienced team of lash experts. The process begins with the application of a specially sized shield on the eyelid, onto which the lashes are gently bonded. A lifting balm is then applied to reshape the lashes from the root, followed by a volumising fix that locks them into their new curve. Next comes a rich tint to deepen the colour and enhance definition, before finishing with a hydrating serum that eases the lashes off the shield and conditions them to perfection. The result? Long, lifted, glossy lashes that open up the eyes and give your summer beauty routine an effortless boost – no smudges, no fuss. Tip: If you usually wear glasses, consider switching things up and buy contact lenses to make the most of your lash lift – it’s a simple change that really lets your eyes shine.

Everything you need to know about Korean skincare, from Then I Met You founder Charlotte Cho https://www.theupcoming.co.uk/2025/03/19/everything-you-need-to-know-about-korean-skincare-from-then-i-met-you-founder-charlotte-cho/ Wed, 19 Mar 2025 17:00:30 +0000 https://www.theupcoming.co.uk/?p=503304 Famed for its focus on gentle, hydrating and innovative formulations, Korean skincare, or K-beauty, has experienced a meteoric rise in popularity in recent years, transforming skincare routines across the globe. By blending time-honoured traditions with cutting-edge science, K-beauty has garnered a dedicated following for its commitment to long-term skin health rather than quick fixes or overly harsh chemicals. With a staggering projected market value of $13.9 billion globally in just two years, K-beauty is cementing its place as a dominant force in the beauty industry.

Since its launch in 2018, one brand at the heart of this movement is sensorial Korean skincare line, Then I Met You. Inspired by the Korean concept of jeong – a deep emotional connection that forms over time – the brand offers a unique take on beauty, encouraging a more mindful and thoughtful approach to skincare that not only produces visible results, but emphasises the joy of the ritual itself.

To learn more about the world of Korean skincare, we spoke with beauty expert, aesthetician and the brand’s founder, Charlotte Cho, who shared the brand’s skincare staples and the groundbreaking innovations that have turned K-beauty into a global phenomenon.

Charlotte Cho, Then I Met You founder

“Korean skincare is driven by innovation, but at its core, it’s about prevention, hydration and gentle care. K-beauty has helped redefine skincare as self-care rather than just a problem-solving step, whilst showing that consistency and gentle care yield better long-term results than aggressive treatments,” Cho explains.

Consumers are shifting away from harsh chemicals and looking for solutions that strengthen their skin barrier over time. As a result, we’re seeing more Western brands adopt K-beauty’s layering approach and focus on hydration, which is a big shift from the days of over-exfoliating and stripping the skin.”

With heritage ingredients like fermented rice, ginseng and persimmon, Then I Met You is changing the way we nurture our skin, with its ethos grounded in the belief that skincare should be more than a routine, but a meaningful practice of self-care.

Cho adds, “Skincare isn’t just about results, it’s about the experience. Then I Met You is all about the importance of deep connections – both with yourself and your skincare rituals. I wanted to create a line of effective products that make people excited to spend that extra moment with themselves.”

When it comes to creating a routine that works, Korean skincare emphasises prioritises barrier-first formulas and skin-nurturing ingredients. Charlotte says, “Instead of one powerhouse ingredient at high concentrations, K-beauty focuses on synergistic blends that work gently and effectively over time. Layering allows your skin to absorb hydration and lock it in, without anything too greasy or pore clogging. A well-layered routine results in that signature plump, dewy glow that Korean skincare is known for.”

Living Cleansing Balm, £38

Then I Met You cleansing balm

As for the unmissable brand’s products, every formula has been designed to deliver both immediate glow and long-term skin benefits. Cho recommends their award-winning cleanser as the best place to start, “It’s the first step in double cleansing and melts away makeup effortlessly while nourishing the skin. It contains sea buckthorn oil, which is packed with omega fatty acids and vitamin C for nourishment and radiance.”

Enriched with seaberry, grapeseed and olive oil, the balm’s sorbet-soft texture transforms into a sumptuous oil cleanser to leave skin feeling clean and refreshed. After a long day, you’ll find yourself eagerly counting down until you can kickstart your evening skincare with this cleanser.

The Giving Essence, £51

The Giving Essence cleanser

Key to the brand’s effectiveness is the careful selection of soothing Korean ingredients combined with potent actives, like in this antioxidant essence. Cho explains, “The Giving Essence is powered by 78% fermented ingredients like sake and galactomyces to deeply hydrate, as well as 5% niacinamide for that glowy, fortified skin barrier.”

With a brightening blend of antioxidants, the optimal concentration of niacinamide, and ellagic acid which is derived from berries to naturally brighten the skin without impacting cell DNA, it’s expertly formulated to unveil a luminous complexion.

Bong² Bounce Cream, £46

Then I Met You cream

Cho says, “This is a fan favourite. It’s a lightweight yet intensely hydrating gel barrier cream that leaves skin feeling plump, bouncy and dewy with natural vitamin C infused in every drop.”

With hallabong fruit to boost elasticity, ceramides to fortify the skin’s barrier and squalane to supplement natural moisture content, this lightweight cream isn’t thick or heavy, making it the perfect everyday moisturiser for those with oily, combination or blemish prone skin.

Renewing Rich Beauty Cream, £57

Rich Renewing Cream

Ideal for sensitive, dry and mature skin, this rich daily moisturiser is great for skin that needs intense nourishment. Created with Quad Ginseng Complex that has been steamed and dried nine times to maximise its potency, this silky cream delivers free-radical fighting antioxidants to reinforce the skin’s barrier and give you a plump, dewy glow.

Honey Dew Lip Mask, £22

Lip Balm Then I Met You

Inspired by Charlotte’s cherished childhood memories of her grandmother preparing juicy slices of honeydew melon after dinner, this versatile lip treatment works as a nourishing daily balm or an intensive overnight mask. Thanks to antioxidant-rich honeydew, moisturising squalane and soothing honey, your lips will be left softer than ever.

Looking ahead, Cho sees Korean skincare continuing to push boundaries while embracing sustainability. “Gen Z is favouring reusable, eco-conscious products like sustainable wash-off masks and toner pads,” she notes. “And of course, fermented ingredients look set to be a huge focus for maintaining a strong, healthy skin barrier.”

Beyond trends, K-beauty’s influence remains undeniable, making advanced ingredients and carefully crafted formulations more accessible than ever.

How to choose the right mattress for you, according to a sleep expert https://www.theupcoming.co.uk/2025/02/10/how-to-choose-the-right-mattress-for-you-according-to-a-sleep-expert/ Mon, 10 Feb 2025 08:04:49 +0000 https://www.theupcoming.co.uk/?p=501850 Finding the perfect mattress can feel like an overwhelming task, especially with the sheer number of options available on the market. From varying firmness levels to different materials and sizes, the endless choices can leave even the savviest shopper unsure where to begin.

To provide some much-needed clarity, we turned to Chris Tattersall, Managing Director of Woolroom, the UK’s leading natural sleep specialist, for advice. So, whether you’re looking to enhance your sleep quality, address allergies, or simply enjoy the luxury of a natural sleep environment, here’s everything you need to know when choosing a mattress.

What do I need to know when buying a new mattress?

Firstly, I’d recommend you check the filling of your mattress and always choose mattresses made with natural materials like wool. This is because wool possesses unique and completely natural thermoregulating properties, meaning it will keep you warm when it’s cold and cool when it’s hot.

Choosing a wool mattress will ensure you stay at the optimum temperature throughout the night, making it the perfect all year-round mattress fibre. Woolroom conducted research with Leeds University* which found wool bedding allowed 43% more moisture transmission than polyester and 67% more than feather and down over a typical eight-hour period.

Mattress firmness is also vital for providing the right comfort and support. Mattresses traditionally come in three variations: soft, regular and firm. The firmer the mattress, the more support it will provide you as you sleep but it is important to find a middle ground between support and comfort.

Try to avoid choosing a mattress that is too soft as this will cause your hips and shoulders to pinch in and the spine to curve downwards, putting pressure on joints and muscles that could lead to pain. At the same time, one that is too firm puts unnecessary strain on your shoulders and hips and is unlikely to support the lumbar region of the spine, causing back pain or stiffness, so it’s important to find the right medium.

Should I choose a wool mattress over a memory foam mattress?

Memory foam mattresses have grown in popularity in recent years due to their affordability and convenience. However, their production and disposal are contributing significantly to our mounting plastic waste crisis and contain many toxic chemicals.

The production of synthetic mattresses relies heavily on non-renewable resources and involves energy-intensive processes, releasing greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. Additionally, these materials take centuries to decompose, they clog landfills, pollute our oceans, endanger marine life, and threaten our delicate ecosystems worldwide.

Wool, however, is the most natural, sustainable, renewable and biodegradable fibre in existence. Sheep ensure a consistent supply of wool without depleting natural resources and causing irreversible devastation to the environment.

What kind of mattress is best for me if I suffer from back pain?

Your spinal health is crucial to look after, therefore it’s important to choose a mattress that offers comfort and sufficient support. While there is always the temptation to sink into a softer mattress, this will provide less support in the long run. For sufferers of back pain, I would recommend a slightly firmer mattress with a medium tension. The overall goal is to find a mattress that evenly distributes your weight, offers optimal support, and suits your body’s pressure points.

When do I need a mattress topper?

Mattress toppers are perfect for increasing the longevity of a mattress, and for adding another layer of comfort and support. A wool mattress topper contains all the natural benefits of wool, while adding an extra luxurious layer to your existing mattress, helping you improve your sleep with wool’s temperature regulating and hypoallergenic benefits. Woolroom offers a 100 Night Sleep Trial on its mattresses when purchased alongside a mattress protector to allow piece of mind.

Seven easy interior decor tips for an autumn refresh https://www.theupcoming.co.uk/2024/09/06/seven-easy-interior-decor-tips-for-an-autumn-refresh/ Fri, 06 Sep 2024 08:09:18 +0000 https://www.theupcoming.co.uk/?p=492399 Whether you’re moving somewhere new or looking to refresh your current space in time for autumn, we think upgrading your home, rented or owned, should be fun, affordable, and easy to achieve for everyone. With that in mind, we’ve rounded up seven seriously simple ways for you to transform your space – without spending a fortune on paint or knocking down a wall!

Create a focal point

Feature walls are great, but a huge piece of wall art, a textured sculpture, or even a statement rug can be even better. Budget permitting, investing in a piece that brings joy or crafting a DIY canvas to hang on the wall can add personality to a space. For those looking to buy rugs, selecting a design that enhances warmth and character can make a significant impact.

Fill your home with foliage

You should never underestimate the impact a bit of greenery can have on a space. Plants can add life and vibrance to your home instantly, and also work beautifully whether you’re all about eye-popping colours or calm neutrals. Oh, and you’ll find zero judgment about faux foliage here. Some homes just don’t get enough light and some of us were born without the green-thumb gene; either way, there are plenty of high-quality artificial plants out there to suit your space.

Add some prints

Incorporate a touch of personality to any space, large or small, with a few framed prints of your choice. Websites like Disenio have a huge (and we mean huge) selection of high-quality prints to choose from, so is always a good place to start your search.

Disineo

Make use of mirrors

Whether you’re lacking natural light or just want to maximise what you have, hanging mirrors opposite a natural light source will instantly brighten a room while making it feel bigger than it is.

Mix and match your furniture pieces

Forget matching throw cushions and sofa sets, modern spaces are all about blending different styles, prints, and colourways. Try a statement chair or a couple of throw cushions with clashing prints to keep things fresh and contemporary. Speaking of which, when it comes to unique furniture and soft furnishings, Homesense has a dreamy, ever-changing selection making it the place to shop for new pieces.

Add floor-to-ceiling curtains

Whether you use them decoratively or for practicality reasons, floor-length curtains will draw the eye upwards to highlight the height of your ceiling. A simple yet super effective tip to make your space look and feel bigger. Opt for natural, lightweight fabrics in neutral hues to keep the room feeling airy and bright.

Create texture

If your space is feeling flat, it’s probably because it is – literally. Decor schemes need contrasting textures to feel warm and alive. Try chunky knitted blankets, fringed throw pillows, rope baskets, and woven plant pots to give your interiors a little more depth. Hint: Dunelm currently has a huge range of cushions and throws to choose from!

Often dubbed the entry-level injectable for those not looking to consider botox or fillers, Profhilo is a revolutionary hyaluronic acid treatment designed to deliver deep hydration to the skin – helping to plump, moisturise and give an all-round glow.

At Emma Wedgwood‘s London clinic, Profhilo has seen a surge in popularity in recent years with many clients keen to improve the overall appearance of their skin in a natural and subtle way. Unlike traditional fillers which focus on adding volume to specific areas, Profhilo works by stimulating the skin’s natural collagen and elastin production, resulting in an overall improvement in tone, texture and elasticity.

Emma Wedgewood

During your treatment, hyaluronic acid is injected into five areas on each side of the face. The process is quick with minimal downtime and relatively little discomfort, which can be improved if you choose to opt for numbing cream. Two sessions are recommended four weeks apart, with follow-up sessions every three to six months depending on your individual concerns. Profhilo can also be used effectively to treat the neck, décolletage, hands, arms and body if these are in need of some added hydration.

Since founding her own clinic in 2021, Wedgwood has built on more than 20 years of experience and prestigious Harley Street training to offer clients a completely bespoke and uniquely tailored approach to their concerns. Her knowledgeable and caring demeanour instantly puts you at ease, leaving you certain you’re in safe hands to create natural-looking outcomes that enhances your beauty.

Ameela: The ultimate under-eye rejuvenation at The Cosmetic Skin Clinic

Arguably one of the most difficult areas of the face to treat is the delicate under-eye area, which is why finding a team of medical practitioners you can trust is vital. At The Cosmetic Skin Clinic, Founder Dr Tracy Mountford’s motto, “When it comes to your face…experience matters” couldn’t be more apt.

Tracy Mountford, Founder of CSC

With more than two decades of experience, the multi-award winning London clinic has established itself as a leader in the field of medical aesthetics. Renowned cosmetic doctors like Dr Johanna Ward and Dr Matthew Jarvie-Thomas make up the team offering cutting-edge treatments like Ameela and pride themselves on a holistic approach to individual concerns.

Recognised as a breakthrough treatment to address common concerns such as dark circles, fine lines and hollowing, the polynucleotide-based injectable Ameela works innovatively to restore skin firmness and elasticity without the need for making drastic changes to your appearance. By delivering a potent blend of hyaluronic acid and essential nutrients directly beneath the eyes, fibroblast cells are kickstarted to stimulate the release of healthy collagen therefore providing a more youthful and rejuvenated appearance.

Dr Ward explained, “Polynucleotides work by increasing hydration in the tissue, reducing free radical damage via powerful bio stimulation of collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid. Polynucleotides are the building blocks of DNA so it’s taking bio-regeneration to the molecular level.”

Ameela Before And After

The knowledgeable team at The Cosmetic Skin Clinic work directly with you to tailor a treatment plan, with two or three sessions spaced two weeks apart, recommended to achieve the best results. The clinic also performs Ameela in combination with other treatments, such as Thermage Eyes, a radiofrequency skin tightening procedure which is particularly good for tackling dark circles and soft hollowing.

Jalupro: The collagen-boosting powerhouse at Injectual

Last but not least in the lineup of cutting-edge injectable treatments is Jalupro. This biorevitalisation treatment is designed to boost collagen production by targeting areas where skin laxity, wrinkles and dehydration are most apparent. After injecting a combination of amino acids, peptides and hyaluronic acid, the skin’s natural elasticity and radiance is restored.

This treatment is particularly effective for ageing skin in need of a significant boost in collagen production, as it contains an even higher concentration of hyaluronic acid when compared to skin boosters like Profhilo. Similarly to Profhilo, a course of two treatments in close succession is recommended before repeating after six months.

Injectual

Nearly all skin types and ages will see positive results from Jalupro’s effects, and it can be an ideal way for patients to prevent the early signs of ageing before it takes place. The team of expert aesthetic practitioners at Injectual will help develop a tailored plan to address skin concerns, and even offer complimentary consultations as well as £100 off your first treatment with them.

While these injectable skin treatments don’t exactly come cheap, they are a great investment for helping people to maintain long-term skin health from within. Each offers unique benefits, so if you’re looking to dip your toe into the exciting world of skin boosters then this is where to start.

Harnessing the power of seasonal colour analysis this Spring https://www.theupcoming.co.uk/2024/05/20/harnessing-the-power-of-seasonal-colour-analysis-this-spring/ Mon, 20 May 2024 11:17:57 +0000 https://www.theupcoming.co.uk/?p=482697 With a new season underway, there’s never been a better time to give your wardrobe a much-needed refresh. But as the fashion industry becomes increasingly saturated, it can be hard not to feel overwhelmed by the sheer amount of choice.

Luckily, harnessing the power of colour through seasonal colour analysis can be an incredibly useful tool to help you make the most of your unique features and find clothes that truly suit you.

It’s a technique that has seen a surge in popularity in recent years, pushing back against trend-led clothing and instead becoming renowned for its ability to streamline your wardrobe whilst enhancing your appearance and boosting confidence. Here’s everything you need to know about this game-changing technique.

The concept

At its core, seasonal colour analysis is all about finding the colours that share the same colour dimensions as the natural colour palette found in your skin, eyes and hair.

After determining which hues best complement your individual colouring, you will be placed into one of four seasons. Like the seasons of the year, each comes with its own unique colour palette, specifically designed to create harmony with your natural characteristics.

By understanding the undertones of your skin, hair, and eyes, you can determine which colours make you look most radiant and vibrant, and avoid those that may wash you out or clash with your features. Armed with this knowledge, you can then curate a wardrobe filled with colours that not only flatter your appearance but also reflect your personality and style.

There are plenty of online tools that claim to accurately determine your season, but for the best results, this is a process which needs to be done in person as it involves draping different coloured fabric swatches across your chest in natural light to see the effect each has on your appearance.

The method

In its most basic form, there are two main areas of focus which help to determine your season. Firstly, the natural undertone of your skin, hair and eyes – whether you have warm and golden undertones or are cool and ashy.

A common myth when it comes to understanding your undertone is whether or not you are tanned, with people often assuming that you must have a warm undertone if you have tanned skin but that’s simply not the case. The undertone of your skin goes far beyond your outer skin colour. Those with warm undertones will fall into either Spring or Autumn, and those with cool undertones are either Winter or Summer.

The second aspect is how light or dark your overall colouring is, in particular, your natural hair colour and how much contrast there is between your features. Likewise this isn’t about dyeing your hair and judging it by this colour, it’s important to look at your most natural colouring. Those with less overall contrast are typically Spring or Summer, and individuals who have darker hair or more contrasting features will be Autumn or Winter.

These are the basic rules at the heart of colour analysis, but there is much more nuance to this which is why in-person consultations are so important. In London, personal stylist Fleur Mandeville offers clients in-person colour analysis sessions, either individually or in groups, to help you find the colours which look most amazing on you. She believes the technique should be a tool, not a rule when it comes to influencing your personal style and helping you become more confident.

The seasons

Spring and Summer are the lightest of the seasons so those falling into either of these tend to have less overall contrast between features. Those who are Spring will have warm undertones, while by contrast Summer has a cool undertone. Famous Springs include Blake Lively and Leslie Mann while Emily DiDonato and Emily Blunt are both Summers.

While people with higher contrast tend to be either Autumn or Winter. Winters are the most intense of the seasons with cool undertones and high contrast, while Autumns are more warm and muted but with the same intensity. Some of the most famous Autumns include Gigi Hadid and Ana de Armas, while Winters include Courteney Cox and Alexandra Daddario.

The benefits

There are countless benefits to colour analysis. First impressions are often formed within seconds of meeting someone and the colours we wear can play a significant role in how others perceive us. By choosing colours that enhance our appearance and natural features, it can have a profound impact on creating a memorable impression while boosting our confidence and self-esteem.

It can be an essential tool to building a versatile wardrobe filled with pieces that perfectly complement our colouring, helping to reduce time and effort spent on outfit planning. Additionally, knowing which colours to avoid can help people steer clear of purchasing items that are unlikely to be worn or enjoyed.

Ultimately, colour analysis is all about celebrating and embracing individuality. Just as no two people are alike, no two colour palettes are identical. By choosing colours that make us look and feel our best, we can celebrate our own unique beauty through our clothing and personal style.
