The series will premiere on 11th March 2026 in more than 240 countries and territories.

Academy Award winner Nicole Kidman stars as the titular forensic pathologist, Dr Kay Scarpetta – a brilliant, driven investigator with a sharp mind, steady hands, and a complicated past. Jamie Lee Curtis plays her estranged sister, Dorothy Farinelli, in what marks the first major screen adaptation of Cornwell’s iconic character, whose stories have sold over 120 million copies worldwide.

Set across two timelines, Scarpetta follows the medical examiner’s early years in the late 1990s and her present-day return to Virginia, where she’s tasked with unravelling a brutal new case that may be tied to her own history. As she digs deeper into the murder investigation, Kay must confront long-buried family rifts, resurface professional rivalries, and wrestle with the case that made – and nearly destroyed – her reputation.

The star-studded cast also includes Bobby Cannavale as Detective Pete Marino, Simon Baker as FBI profiler Benton Wesley, and Ariana DeBose as Kay’s fiercely intelligent niece, Lucy. Younger versions of the characters are portrayed by Rosy McEwen, Amanda Righetti, Jake Cannavale, and Hunter Parrish.

The series is created and showrun by Liz Sarnoff (Barry, Lost) and directed in part by David Gordon Green (The Exorcist: Believer, Halloween). Scarpetta is executive produced by Kidman and Curtis, alongside Cornwell herself, with Amazon MGM Studios and Blumhouse Television backing the production.

Promising a forensic thriller that balances psychological depth with edge-of-your-seat tension, Scarpetta reimagines a trailblazing female character for a new generation of viewers.

Power, paranoia and deepfakes: Holliday Grainger returns in first look at The Capture series thre https://www.theupcoming.co.uk/2025/11/26/power-paranoia-and-deepfakes-holliday-grainger-returns-in-first-look-at-the-capture-series-thre/ Wed, 26 Nov 2025 15:25:00 +0000 https://www.theupcoming.co.uk/?p=528964 The BBC has unveiled a new image of Holliday Grainger in the upcoming third series of its hit surveillance thriller The Capture, set to arrive on BBC One and BBC iPlayer in Spring 2026.

The image offers a first glimpse of Grainger’s return as DCI Rachel Carey, now Acting Commander of Counter Terrorism Command. Set one year after the events of series two, the six-part drama sees Carey grappling with the fallout from her explosive live broadcast that exposed a secret government deepfake programme known as Correction.

Still fighting to rebuild public trust in surveillance technology, Carey is now fronting Operation Veritas – a supposedly transparent new camera system – when a devastating act of terrorism shakes the British establishment. The attack leaves only one witness, and as Carey digs deeper into the conspiracy, she finds herself at the centre of an escalating crisis that threatens to engulf the government, the security services and the media.

With loyalties tested and the truth more elusive than ever, The Capture returns to ask urgent questions about power, technology, and the battle over what – and who – we believe.

The third series is created, written, and executive-produced by Ben Chanan and produced by Heyday Television (a part of Universal International Studios).

Nia DaCosta directs 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple, a brutal evolution of the horror series https://www.theupcoming.co.uk/2025/11/26/nia-dacosta-directs-28-years-later-the-bone-temple-a-brutal-evolution-of-the-horror-series/ Wed, 26 Nov 2025 15:07:00 +0000 https://www.theupcoming.co.uk/?p=528959 Sony Pictures has unveiled fresh details for 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple, the next chapter in the acclaimed horror franchise, set to hit UK cinemas on 14th January 2026.

Directed by Nia DaCosta (Candyman, The Marvels) and written by original screenwriter Alex Garland (Ex Machina, Annihilation), the film expands the apocalyptic world first introduced in 28 Days Later, offering a darker, more psychologically charged vision of survival.

This time, the threat isn’t just the infected. Set decades after the original outbreak, the story follows Dr Kelson (Ralph Fiennes) as he becomes entangled in a mysterious and unsettling relationship that could upend what remains of civilisation. Meanwhile, a young survivor, Spike (played by Alfie Williams), finds himself in a desperate situation after a violent encounter with the ruthless Jimmy Crystal (Jack O’Connell). In this version of the future, the most terrifying monsters might not be the infected – but the people left behind.

Joining the cast are Erin Kellyman, Chi Lewis-Parry and executive producer Cillian Murphy, who starred in the original 2002 film. The project reunites key creative figures from the franchise, including Danny Boyle and Andrew Macdonald on the producing team, ensuring the new instalment stays rooted in the legacy of the original films while taking bold new risks.

28 Years Later: The Bone Temple is set to be the first in a planned new trilogy, promising to explore the aftermath of infection in a world where humanity itself is fraying at the edges.

Richard Gere and Jacob Elordi star in Paul Schrader’s introspective new drama Oh, Canada https://www.theupcoming.co.uk/2025/11/25/richard-gere-and-jacob-elordi-star-in-paul-schraders-introspective-new-drama-oh-canada/ Tue, 25 Nov 2025 16:37:00 +0000 https://www.theupcoming.co.uk/?p=528813 Paul Schrader’s latest directorial work Oh, Canada, starring Richard Gere, Uma Thurman, Jacob Elordi and Michael Imperioli, will be released on digital platforms across the UK and Ireland on 12th January 2026.

Adapted from the novel Foregone by Russell Banks, Oh, Canada centres on Leonard Fife (Gere), a revered documentary filmmaker who, nearing the end of his life, decides to confront the truths he’s long buried. Known for his hard-hitting exposés, Leonard’s own history – particularly his draft-dodging past during the Vietnam War and the complexities of his relationships – proves far murkier than his public image suggests.

With his wife Emma (Thurman) present, Leonard agrees to an intimate filmed interview that peels back the myths of his life. As his memories unravel, younger Leonard (Elordi) emerges, offering a portrait of a man shaped as much by evasion as by conviction. Schrader’s film becomes a contemplative portrait of legacy, regret and the lines between public persona and private truth.

Best known for First Reformed, American Gigolo and his collaborations with Martin Scorsese, Schrader continues his exploration of guilt, faith and confession with a story that feels both personal and politically resonant.

Oh, Canada is a 94-minute meditation on the stories we tell ourselves and the truths we take to the grave.

The drama, which has already won the Silver Lion Grand Jury Prize at Venice and more than a dozen international awards, will preview in select cinemas across the UK and Ireland from 28th November, ahead of its general release on 16th January 2026.

Starring an all-Palestinian cast including Saja Kilani, Motaz Malhees, Amer Hlehel and Clara Khoury, the film is inspired by a true story that captured global attention. On 29th January 2024, five-year-old Hind Rajab was trapped in a car under fire in Gaza. Ben Hania transforms this real-life moment into a gripping, emotionally charged narrative that both honours Hind’s voice and serves as a rallying cry for remembrance.

The film moves between urgent realism and elegiac storytelling, focusing on Hind’s final hours and the efforts made to reach her. Preview screenings are set to coincide with the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People on 29th November.
