“Expect the unexpected, the weird and the wonderful, the funny and the sad”: Bilal Hasna and Vivian Oparah on Dead Hot

“Expect the unexpected, the weird and the wonderful, the funny and the sad”: Bilal Hasna and Vivian Oparah on Dead Hot

Created by Charlotte Coben, Dead Hot is a six-part comedy thriller set in Liverpool. The unpredictable narrative follows two best friends, Elliot (Bilal Hasna) and Jess (Vivian Oparah), who find themselves intrinsically linked by the possible murder of someone close to them: Elliot’s boyfriend and Jess’s twin brother Peter. Five years later, united by grief, the pair start their own line of investigation. But the stones they upturn weave chaos, horror and unsettling revelations that start to seep into their friendship and make them question everything they know.

After turning to dating apps in a bid to get over his heartache, Elliot heads out on a date with a mysterious guy called Will (Marcus Hodson), but the first flutters of love are crushed by dark secrets and uncertainty. In the meantime, Jess is contacted by her supposedly dead brother, and the pair are forced to navigate this strange new path where Elliot questions whether it was love or if he was just being targeted.

The Upcoming had the pleasure of speaking to Hasna and Oparah about preparing for their roles in the series, working with such a brilliant ensemble cast and this unique story told through a queer lens.
