Black Doves premiere: On the red carpet with the cast and creatives

Set against London’s Christmas charm, with all its twinkling lights and dramatic displays, Black Doves is the latest spy thriller bringing intrigue to the holiday season. Created by Joe Barton, the Netflix series follows Helen Webb (Keira Knightley), an undercover spy working for the mysterious, eponymous organisation. When her lover Jason (Andrew Koji) is murdered, spymaster Reed (Sarah Lancashire) enlists her old friend, former assassin Sam Young (Ben Whishaw). Together, they uncover a conspiracy entwined with London’s underworld and global tensions.

“I hope they will see a different side of her – not the made-up Keira Knightley,” says director Alex Gabassi, as The Upcoming caught up with the cast and crew of Black Doves at the series’ world premiere at the British Film Institute.

Director Lisa Gunning recalls being on the edge of her seat when she first read the script for Black Doves, and praises Knightley and Whishaw’s performances as “the highest level of brilliance”.

Kathryn Hunter talks about the background of her character, assassin master Lenny Lines, and reveals that she shares “a very special relationship” with Sam (Ben Whishaw).

Omari Douglas describes his character’s onscreen romance with Sam (Ben Whishaw).

Ken Nwosu shares how he prepared for his role as Bill, a political advisor to the Secretary of Defence.

Luther Ford discusses the ensemble cast and the Christmas backdrop of the spy thriller.

Ella Lily Hyland spoke to us about the physical training she underwent for the action sequences.
