First look at The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, arriving in cinemas 20 November 2026

Lionsgate has released the teaser trailer, poster and first-look images for The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, marking the one-year countdown to its cinematic debut on 20th November 2026.

The upcoming film returns to the dystopian world of Panem, this time focusing on a young Haymitch Abernathy, played by Joseph Zada. Set 24 years before Katniss Everdeen’s revolution, the story begins on the morning of the Second Quarter Quell – the Fiftieth Hunger Games – and promises to explore the events that shaped one of the saga’s most complex and iconic characters.

Francis Lawrence, who previously directed four instalments of The Hunger Games franchise, returns to helm the new chapter. The screenplay is written by Billy Ray, based on Suzanne Collins’s latest novel. Producers include franchise veterans Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson for Color Force, alongside Lawrence.

The ensemble cast features Jesse Plemons, Ralph Fiennes, Glenn Close, Kieran Culkin, Elle Fanning, McKenna Grace, Maya Hawke, Whitney Peak and Kelvin Harrison Jr.

Since its announcement, Sunrise on the Reaping has stirred excitement across the globe. The novel sold 1.5 million copies in its first week – more than double the launch week sales of The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes and triple those of Mockingjay. The film follows in the footsteps of a franchise that has already earned over $3.3 billion worldwide.
